Fall Favorites-Staple Pieces for Your Closet

The aesthetics of fall are what create the distinct tone of the season. The crisp temperature and the smell of the falling leaves pair well with a cream sweater and a pair of boots. Fall trends are classic and timeless.

Whether you are going to a pumpkin patch with some warm apple cider in hand or heading to class with a pumpkin spice latte, it is important to wear an outfit that will get you into the fall mindset.

The color palette is one aspect of fall fashion that makes the season feel truly comforting. Reflecting the changing leaves, the color scheme consisting of cream, brown, burnt orange, and dark red is very common in the fall. The staple pieces of fall seem to make a return every year which adds to the cozy and sentimental feeling.

So far this fall, I have seen chunky knit sweaters return as they have in years past. This season, however, there has been a new abundance of cardigan sweaters on campus. Usually worn with only the top button fastened. Isabella Mayer is seen wearing a cardigan in an Instagram post from Sept. 30. Cardigans can be styled in many ways and are considered a capsule wardrobe piece.

Denim has been a common fall staple. Jeans, mini skirts, and shorts are a popular choice of bottoms due to the simplicity of pairing them with other pieces and colors. Levi’s Jeans are a good brand of jeans that usually can be found at second hand stores, as a more sustainable option.

Leather jackets are also making an emergence into the world of fall fashion. Colors like brown or black are common and paired with light wash jeans and a scarf. Jackets can add a bit of warmth to an outfit during colder months.

Accessories are important to add some spice to an outfit. The most popular accessory I have seen around campus this fall is the medium-sized shoulder bags in dark red or brown. Fashion influencers have also been incorporating these bags into their style, as seen on Brigette Pheloung a.k.a. Acquired Style.

Straying away from the petite handbags that have been prominent in the past have became a prominent accessory trend. Belts, jewelry, and socks can be very effective in adding individualized personality to an outfit.

So far this year, it seems that tote bags have been chosen as the new it-bag for carrying class necessities. The most common being a plain black leather tote that goes with any outfit.

In the fall boots have been a long-term trend and they are continuing their position as the staple shoe of fall. Whether you are wearing Ugg boots or leather boots with buckles, they can add a sense of uniqueness to an outfit.

Hairstyles are an important addition to any outfit. Fall hairstyles are usually very simple. Braids, ponytails, and hair clips are very popular in the fall. Matilda Djerf wears many of these hairstyles in her content. This is a big turning point from the slick back bun that has been persistent over the past year.

Staple pieces of fall are a very important addition to your wardrobe. Organizing a timeless collection of clothing can help to decrease fast-changing seasonal trends.
