Easy Recipes: St. Patty’s Day Cuisine & Cocktails
Holidays have been looking a little different this past year, but that doesn’t mean they can’t still be festive. Whether you’re getting together with your quarantine bubble or just lounging around in your home, there’s bound to be a recipe that calls your name to spice up your St. Patrick’s Day!
Grab A Drink
It’s no secret that the Irish like to have a drink or two (or three or four…), so it’s only appropriate to celebrate with a cheers-worthy beverage. If you don’t want to opt for a classic pint of Guinness, here are a few other drink ideas that are Irish-approved (that is if you consider me, a “75% Irish” American, worthy of approving this message).
Irish Car Bomb
Best made with the trifecta of Irish drinks (Guinness, Bailey’s, and Jameson), this sweet and creamy cocktail is sure to get the ball rolling for a fun evening.
Green Martini
Dying to sip on an Insta-worthy green cocktail? Stay on theme with this green martini! If you’re not a fan of Irish liqueurs, don’t fret–this recipe uses vodka.
Bailey’s Mint Martini
Of course, if you are a fan of Irish liqueurs, grab your bottle of Bailey’s and try this spiked version of a Shamrock Shake.
Keep It Snacky
We all know green is the “it” color of spring, which is perfectly fitting for St. Patrick’s Day. If you want your food to be trendy too, try one of these festive recipe ideas.
Mozzarella Basil Pesto Bites
Keep it light this St. Patty’s day with this refreshing recipe. If you want to spice it up a bit, we recommend adding tomato and balsamic glaze for Caprese bites!
Creme de Menthe Cupcakes
Already had too many Shamrock Shakes this season? Mix it up with a new minty treat and try this home-made recipe.
St. Patty’s “Charcuterie Board”
Can’t get enough of charcuterie boards? Channel your inner leprechaun and make a board that will outshine a pot of gold. Since charcuterie boards don't have any particular recipe, here are a few of our suggested ingredients:
Maintain the green theme with some lime jello, the St. Patrick’s Day pack of M&M’s, green cookies or cupcakes, and anything else on-theme at your go-to grocery store.
Keep the mint going with some Mint Oreos or Andes Candies
“Taste the rainbow” with some Skittles or another rainbow candy-like Airhead Xtremes
Add a touch of gold (at the end of the rainbow ;) with chocolate coins or Rolo’s
Here’s some charcuterie inspo:
A Traditional Meal
This is the meal I grew up having for dinner every St. Patrick’s Day, and I would recommend it to anyone. It tastes great, and the leftovers are arguably even better. Give it a go and chef it up with your roommates, family members, or just yourself!
What’s on the plate?
For the main course, enjoy some corned beef, cabbage, carrots, and potato. After getting those groceries, swing by a local bakery and pick up some Irish soda bread! This can be enjoyed with dinner or as a dessert (or both!) and is easily my favorite food item on this entire list.
What to do with leftovers?
I recommend making a Reuben sandwich with your leftover corned beef. If that’s not your style, cook up a classic breakfast with a side of corned beef hash. This works perfectly if you have leftover potatoes too, you’re almost set on those ingredients! The cabbage and carrots are super versatile and can be paired with almost anything. If you have leftover Irish soda bread, keep in mind it’s great fresh, but as it sits out for a few days, it might taste better toasted with some butter.
Potatoes Galore
This list wouldn’t be complete without potatoes, so I’ve compiled a list of every type of potato I could possibly imagine. Stick to the classics, or find some inspiration and try something new, because, with potatoes, the world is your oyster!
