Rating Trendy Hairstyles

From the Kar-Jenners to Gopher game days, these hairstyle trends are everywhere.  Let's dive into my thoughts on some of the trendiest hairstyles right now. Essentially, I will be taking into account how cute, how easy, and how basic each style is to determine its rating. Disclaimer: I suck at doing my hair. Some styles are also more permanent than others but nonetheless, deserved a mention. Pro tip: mix and match multiple of these styles together for the best results.

  1. Tiny Braids

Every time I attempt this, the braids fall directly in front of my eyes and I look like a third-grader. I prefer a subtle mini-braid tucked further back for some fun. I have seen plenty of people pull this off and look great; sectioning is definitely key. Goodluck.

2. Half-Up, Half-Down

An absolute classic. Now that we are mainly back in-person and I can’t turn my camera off when I am having a bad hair day, this is my saving look. I love this on long or short hair, and it works with many types of hair . You can make it classy or casual in at least 5 minutes or less. Throw your hair behind your head or straight on top.

3. Crimped

The crimped look just says “I’m heading to Blarneys” but make it chique. My appreciation for trends returning from the early 2000s is unmatched. I love a soft crimp or even bringing back the ridiculously crimped crimp. Like any heat involving hairstyle, slightly more time-consuming but if you have a crimper, easy. If Taylor Swift had a comeback then why shouldn’t crimped hair?

4. Bubble Ponytail

This is the hairstyle that saturated game day, understandably so. The bubble ponytail ensures control over your hair, keeping it all together in a simple way that looks so fun and cute. It even made appearances on the Golden Runway! You can even put it in any ponytail or pigtail for some major spice. I also love this look because I feel like it really confuses men.

5. Curtain Bangs

Whatever you do, try not to do them yourself, especially two minutes after a mental breakdown. I think this look had such a distinct moment. It was always unachievable for me but props to the girls that made the cut, so cute. However, as my new favorite podcaster, Alyssa Amoroso always says about her curtain bangs, “Styling [curtain bangs] is a full-time job”. You’ve been warned.

6. Multi-Color Bangs

So many success stories… but for every success story, a disaster situation follows as well. I really do think it is 50/50 on this look. One tip, blonde bangs with jet black hair will not ever look how you think it will. Unless of course, it does. If so, congrats… I am jealous. This is another that I see in my dreams but I just won’t make the leap.

7. The Claw Clip

Like the half-up, half-down this is such a trusty look and there are so many ways you can take it. This is an everyday look for me but I still own way too many claw clips. Picture this: you wake up completely disoriented, maybe still drunk from the night before, pop one of these into your hair and you look like you should be on Forbes. The Sunday Brunch accessory.

8. Pigtails

Britney Spears did it best but Hailey Bieber and Kylie Jenner are bringing it back. This is the innocent and juvenile but secretly a bad b*tch look. Maybe you guys aren’t seeing what I am seeing but this look intimidates me! Like all the others, you can mix and match by braiding your pigtails or even giving them the bubble look. They look great up high, with small sections of your hair, or chilling in the back.

9. Aggressive Side Part

Some things were just meant to stay in the 2000s no matter how hard we (or Bella Hadid) tried. I am not a fan of this trend but I have seen it work. In my opinion, it very exclusively goes with a high Ariana Grande-esqu ponytail though.

10.  Mullet Watch

I am not referencing the middle of Nowhere, Hicksville return of the mullets. Ladies, I am talking to you. This trend just works too well for fall. Get the shag, chop it off, I am so here for this.

11. Butterfly Clips

The most recent on the list of hair trends, I have so many thoughts about this. Did we not all go to preschool at some point with a similar contraption in our hair? They may not have been from the $2 500 pack from Amazon but I am sure this was resurrected from prehistoric times. Something about college girls wearing clips for 4-year-olds sits weird with me. Will I do it anyways? Yes, of course.

12. Bandanas

YES. Finally, a new way aside from an ugly baseball cap to hide my greasy hair! This is the look of the looks. This look is superior. I am so biased I literally wear a bandana everywhere. *cries* Hear me out, you can be anyone with this look: biker girl, country girl, festival girl. It all works. Extra props if you are rocking the Versace scarf-headband.
