Minneapolis Drag Scene

Drag shows have been going on in Minneapolis for many years. As the LGBTQ+ community has become more accepted and appreciated, drag shows are popping up all over the twin cities. Here are some to check out!

The Gay 90’s

The Gay 90’s was established in 1957, and it quickly became known for being an LGBTQ+ establishment. They host an array of events from foam parties to karaoke. On Wednesday nights they host “Do You Think You Can Drag?” This night is for people who aren’t in the drag community who are interested in giving it a try. Every first and third Saturday of the month they have “La Folies Burlesk” and “Lafemme” drag shows as well. The Gay 90’s is one of the original drag spots in Minneapolis and definitely a spot to check out!

Union Rooftop

One of the most popular drag shows has been hosted at Union Rooftop. This is a popular brunch spot featuring bottomless mimosas (21+ of course), delicious food, DJ’s and drag shows. The best part is that during the summer the rooftop is opened up and you can enjoy the beautiful weather. They have themed drag shows including Ariana Grande, Harry Potter, Euphoria, and many more. They usually have two to three shows on Saturdays and Sundays every month. Make reservations early because the drag shows tend to fill up very quickly!

The Saloon

Another long time running LGBTQ+ bar in Minneapolis is called The Saloon. They are strong advocates for the LGBTQ+ community, and are considered an establishment where people can go to be themselves and feel safe. They put on drag shows most nights of the week, usually starting at 10pm. As they told my friends and I, they’re actually at 10:30pm because it’s on queen time. Whether it is a small or large crowd they do an amazing job and you have the opportunity to meet the queens after they perform.

Crave Restaurant Minneapolis

Similar to Union Rooftop, Crave restaurant puts on drag shows a few times a month. They only offer their drag bunches at the Minneapolis location of Crave. They have bottomless mimosas, food, and drag queens for some weekend fun and entertainment! They host their events on the rooftop of the Minneapolis location, with casual seating and comfy couches to enjoy. You can find their shows linked to their facebook page!

These are just a few of the spots in Minneapolis to go see drag shows! They all bring high energy and will be one of the most fun experiences to have in the cities. Going to see shows is a way of supporting the LGBTQ+ community and allowing people to be comfortable in their own skin. Make sure to tip your drag queens and enjoy!
