Easy Recipes: Everything but the Fridge Fried Rice
Got a bunch of food in your fridge that’s about to go bad? Bought a bunch of vegetables and healthy food for your New Year’s resolution that isn’t working out so well? Wanna eat something quick and hot that requires little effort?
If you’ve answered yes to any of these questions (especially the first one, but if the second one applied too, I won't judge) then this recipe is for you.
Growing up, rice was a staple in my house. Fried rice is just a step- it is so easy to make and customize to your liking. This recipe is for you to mess with to your heart's content! So have some fun and nothing can go wrong (unless you put candy or chocolate in it–if you do, let me know how it went).
Okay, enough chit chat. Onto the recipe!
Ingredients:
● Cooked rice– I usually use white rice, but you use whatever kind you want (if you have some leftover rice from your Chinese takeout you can use that too!)
● Protein– chicken, tofu, the sliced meat in your fridge, the ground meat sitting in your freezer, or anything else you want
● Vegetables or anything leftover in your fridge that needs to go– make sure you cut it up first!
● Your choice of seasonings (did you really think I would let you eat this unseasoned? I’m not a heathen). Personally, I prefer salt, pepper, garlic powder and onion powder/minced onion, or garlic salt if there isn't any garlic in the kitchen
● Oil or butter of your choice (if you want measurements, try 1TBSP of either one)
Fried Rice Recipe:
1. First things first, heat your pan to medium and then pour in your oil or butter. You want enough that the bottom of your pan is coated nicely.
2. Next, add in your protein. If you’re putting in something raw, you’re going to cook it for a bit longer than you would for sausages or something that is mostly cooked. You can tell it’s done when most of the red/pink of the meat is gone.
3. After your protein is ready, toss in your chopped up veggies and anything else you want in your fried rice.
4. Stir your concoction of protein and other foods until the veggies start to wilt. 5. Add your seasoning and mix it in. If you’re not sure how much to add, it’s better to under-season than over-season. You can always add more if it’s not enough. 6. Finally, put your rice in. Mix your protein and veggies with your rice and make sure that it all is mixed evenly. If your rice is a bit clumpy, make sure you break it up as you combine everything.
7. This is optional, but if you want you can taste a bit of fried rice and see if you need to add some more seasoning to it. If you want to add more, just mix it in with everything else in your pan.
8. Your fried rice is ready to eat! Turn off your stove and pour your rice into a bowl or on a plate (I like using bowls better cause it’s way easier to eat on the couch and watch Netflix as I eat) and enjoy!
9. If you have any leftovers, let your fried rice cool and then store in the fridge in some tupperware for another day.
