5 Tips For Healthy Winter Skin

We’re starting to get a little taste of a Minnesota winter as the weather continues to get cooler and the sun sets a little earlier, which isn’t ideal. This time of year always sneaks up on us, sending our bodies into a frozen state. While we can’t avoid this frigid time of year, we can certainly do our best to dodge the dehydrated and struggling skin that develops against the chill air. If you’re searching for some tips and tricks to keep your skin soft and glowing throughout the wintry season, look no further. Golden Magazine has done all the digging to organize a list of five cold weather skin care suggestions that will help you maintain a smooth and healthy look.

Switch Up Your Face Cream

One thing that will help your skin feel and look its best during the winter months is to use a heavier face cream. Packing on a thicker layer of face cream is the key to sustaining a moisturized barrier on your skin because that is often attacked and broken down with the cold. Applying an extremely hydrating moisturizer both in the morning and at night will be a great way to keep your skin just how you like it. I’ve recommended some great products to start with below!

Fix Your Space

After doing some research, it’s clear that one of the best solutions for dry skin in the winter is to combat the dry air in the rooms where you spend the most time. In common cases, you might want to add a humidifier to your bedroom or living space because this will truly help keep your skin hydrated. This low effort practice will keep enough water or moisture in the air and secretly ensure your skin is bright and at its best.

Get Rid of Those Cruel Cleansers

This could be a no-brainer but really try to avoid skincare that is made with intense fragrances and additives; they will dry out your skin! Hunting down the perfect, gentle formula will maintain the natural oils in your skin during a time when you want them the most. Avoiding products that will get in the way of cleansing and just end up drying you out should be a forbidden practice. Tried and true products, like Cetaphil, are sure to help your skin with the cold, not hurt it.

Slugging

With TikTok trends running the FYP, it’s possible that you’ve come across a video of the skin trend “slugging.” This skincare practice is going to be your favorite for trapping moisture into your skin and eliminating any feelings of dryness. Using a petroleum-based product to seal your skin overnight will help solve the issues of dry or sensitive skin. By dampening your skin and then covering it with an occlusive layer of a petroleum ointment, like Vaseline or even Aquaphor, you’ll start to feel like your skin can take on the winter weather. Who would have thought that a TikTok trend would help us maintain a solid skin care routine!

Keep Up With Sunscreen

I know that the sun doesn’t shine as much as we’d like it to in the freezing winter, but that doesn’t mean we should forget about sunscreen. It may seem silly but incorporating sunscreen into your skin care routine year-round is essential to keep it protected and safe. Sunscreen is still imperative to cover those sunspots and smooth your face, despite the brisk, outside air.
