5 Albums that Turn 10 Years Old in 2025

Graphic by Janet Xiong

2015, the year of Musical.ly, Vine, Tumblr, galaxy prints and mustaches. What a time. When you think of music you might think of Troye Sivan’s Blue Neighborhood, Halsey’s Badlands, Taylor Swift’s 1989 and Adele’s 25

In our chaotic world today, music acts like an escape for me. It brings me nostalgia but it also takes me to places I’ve never been before. As I’ve grown into a 21-year-old, I’ve found some great music from ten years ago that I still listen to today.

Here are five albums from 2015 that I recommend accompanied by what I imagine or feel when I listen to them.

Peripheral Vision - Turnover

Released on May 4, 2015, “Peripheral Vision” is Turnover’s most popular album release. Turnover is a rock band from Virginia Beach, Virginia. According to Genius, Turnover started out as a pop-punk band in 2009 but are described more as emo and dream pop now.

I picture myself listening to Peripheral Vision on a late night hangout with a small group of friends. We are driving with the windows down, taking a walk and maybe finding somewhere to sit and play.

I’m probably gossiping about my failed relationship and crapping on my ex. I’m having a mild crashout and acting like it’s fine. It’s painful, but I won’t admit that.

Dear Wormwood - The Oh Hellos

The Oh Hellos are a band from southern Texas created by siblings Tyler and Maggie Heath.

“Dear Wormwood” was released on Oct. 16, 2015. According to The Oh Hellos, the album is inspired by authors C.S. Lewis (The Screwtape Letters) and Patrick Rothfuss (The Kingkiller Chronicle), and it’s also inspired by folklore, mythology and apocalyptic literature.

When I listen to this album I imagine myself in nature somewhere. Maybe I’m in the woods or in a field. I am adventuring through the wilderness by myself and am met with fascinating creatures.

I dance, run, scream, laugh and cry. I’m disconnected from society, isolated, and yet, it’s the closest I’ve ever felt to the world.

I jump into a stream of water and slowly unravel into the earth.

On Your Own Love Again - Jessica Pratt

“On Your Own Love Again” by Jessica Pratt was released on Jan. 27, 2015. Jessica Pratt is a guitarist, singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles. Her 2015 album features fingerpicking, layered vocals and a calm, yet moody and dramatic atmosphere.

I picture myself listening to this album as the sun has just set and the sky is dark red and purple. I’m drinking some wine and maybe smoking a cigarette.

It’s quiet except for the city sounds down below and I can’t help but think about how at this moment, I am alone in a world full of people going on about their complex lives.

My Love is Cool - Wolf Alice

Wolf Alice released their album, “My Love is Cool”, on June 22, 2015. An alternative-rock band from London, Wolf Alice's album encapsulates coming of age, the rebelling, the crash outs and the quiet moments. In my opinion, it is a perfect summer album.

I imagine myself at a large house or college party. There’s sweaty bodies dancing everywhere. Everyone is either high or drunk. Not me though, I’m sober.

Sometimes I step out into the chilly night, away from the sweaty bodies. I wander the streets and I feel unstoppable. I am young and free. I know nothing but I’m learning.

Currents - Tame Impala

Released on July 17, 2015, “Currents” by Tame Impala is a psychedelic, synth, pop and everything mix. I think it is one of the most unique, experimental and euphoric albums out there in the world.

Currents is a beach album. I imagine waking up to the sunrise on the beach with this album playing in my ears. Maybe I fell asleep on the beach with my friends listening to this album and I was the first to wake up. I am in awe and agony of the sky’s beauty while my friends soundly sleep beside me.

Music is a great escape when times get hard, I recommend listening to these 5 albums and imagining yourself in another place.
