What’s Trending?

As Halloween and the horrors at Astroworld Fest begin to feel like moments from another life, let’s dive into the most recent pop-culture moments… some specific to right here on campus!

  1. Taylor Swift

I do not get the hype. I did not listen to Red the first time around and I find it completely unnecessary to do it all again now. It pains me to hear the disbelief in people's reactions to my lack of watching the All Too Well short film. No, I did not have 10 minutes to spare to watch my celebrity crush Dylan O’Brian depicted as… Jake Gyllenahl. Ew.

If you are about the hype, check out, “Everything You Need to Know About “All Too Well” written by Golden Staff.

2. Goldy’s Jockstrap

If you’re not following her you’re surely missing out. Goldy’s Jockstrap is an Instagram meme page run by a girl in Carlson. Live vicariously through her Instagram to learn all about the horrors of being a non-greek life female in Carlson, surrounded by the worst of the male predators: the Finance Frat bros. Relatable TBH.

3. Espresso Martinis

I can’t be the only one that’s all of a sudden seeing these everywhere. I blame the influencers. Well here you have it, anyone that’s anyone is pairing dinner with this dessert cocktail. I think it would look especially good perched on top of the Union rooftop.

4. No More Game Days

It’s that time of year where we collectively and depressingly hang up the gopheralls and pull out the Canada Geese (well not me but I’m dreaming, okay?). Time to find a new excuse to be blacked out by 3pm… brunch anyone?

5. Concerts at Bars?

Anyone else confused about this? Especially the Sunday DJ at Sals from 12-4. I mean??? Was the Cowboy Jack’s Bacardi Party not just a mock EDM fest? I remain confused at the goal here and will probably just stick to Thursday night’s karaoke at Blarneys for all my musical needs.

6. ‘Tis the Season

I have already begun curating the perfect Christmas playlist and scheduling my eight separate viewings of Elf for the season. After my weekend decorating spree, I have three Christmas trees scattered around my room, along with a pink sparkly reindeer and four mini stockings for me, my sleep paralysis demon, and the two spiders in the corner.

7. Nike Dunks

The shoes that are taking sorority girls by storm. I’m honestly impressed. How did y'all come to find out about these?! Yes I am partaking in this trend; however, I’d like to think that I actually started it. If I see one more creased Jordan though I’m gonna lose it, you don’t deserve these.

8. Adele

What kind of coincidence is a comeback from Adele and T-Swift in essentially the same week?! Am I here for it? Honestly, not really. Unpopular opinion: I really cannot be bothered by music that was supposed to be left in the last decade. Adele seems great and all but I’m passing on this one.

9. Pete Davidson and Kim Kardashian (Kete? Pim?)

The only thing more amusing than Pete and Kim’s paparazzi pics is the responses from the media. Oh my god is she wearing Yeezy’s while she's out with Pete?!? Is it Intentional!?! Is Pete really packing that much heat!?! Obviously, this is a publicity stunt. I love Pete as much as the next girl, but Kim K? Then again, I’d be happy to be proved wrong on this one.

Chloe Tierney

Hi everyone! I’m Chloe Tierney. I’ve been writing for the blog since the birth of Golden. I love fashion and movies! My hobbies include going out to eat, reading & writing, dirt biking, and traveling! When it’s not a gopher game day, I love to spend weekends up north at my cabin with my family. I’m from Hudson, Wisconsin, but have always felt like more of a Minnesotan at heart.
